Neurotoxin (Botox)

Facial Neurotoxin (Botox)

Key Injection Points:

  • Frontalis Muscle (Forehead lines): This muscle is responsible for raising the eyebrows and creating horizontal forehead wrinkles. Injecting neurotoxin here can smooth out these lines and provide a subtle lift to the eyebrows.

  • Glabellar Complex (Frown lines): Also known as the "11 lines" or frown lines, this area between the eyebrows is a common target for neurotoxin injections. Relaxing the muscles here can soften vertical lines and create a more relaxed appearance.

  • Temporalis Muscle (Temples): Injecting neurotoxin into this muscle can complement forehead treatments by reducing tension and wrinkles around the temples.

  • Orbicularis Oculi (Crows feet): This muscle runs around the eye. On the sides of the eye this muscle leads to “Crows feet” with smiling or other large facial expressions

  • Masseter: This muscle is partly responsible for chewing. A small amount of neurotoxin does not affect the ability to chew, however for people who clench jaw or grind teeth injection into this muscle can decrease soreness from this. Additionally injection here may help decrease signs of  “TMJ” a condition of the temporomandibular joint that leads to popping/clicking of the jaw.

Neurotoxin for sweating (Botox)

Key Injection Points:

  • Underarms/armpits: Underarms have a high concentration of sebaceous glands that are sympathetically innervated (fight or flight) and lead to sweating.  For those suffering from excessive sweating in the underarm region neurotoxin injections can significantly decrease amount of sweat to this area leading to drier underarms even without use of antiperspirant.

Prior to your appointment:

  • Avoid Blood Thinners: Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil for at least a week before.

  • No Alcohol: Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Clean Face: Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup.

  • Inform Your Provider: Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores, as they may recommend antiviral medication.

  • Schedule Wisely: Plan your neurotoxin appointment at least two weeks before any special events to allow time for any potential bruising to subside.

Treatment Process:

  • Consultation: A professional will assess your level of sweating.

  • Injection: Underarms are numbed with a “EMLA” cream. After 30-45 minutes of numbing cream several underarm injections are placed in a grid-like lattice. The procedure usually takes about 10-15 minutes.

Results: You might start noticing changes within 24-72 hours, with full effects noticeable in 1-2 weeks. Lasts 3-4 months.
