Pigmentation Therapy

Dispigmentation / Melasma / Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Melasma is an acquired light or dark brown hyperpigmentation. It occurs in exposed areas, most often the face, and results from exposure to sunlight; may be associated with pregnancy, ingestion of contraceptive hormones, or certain medications. It is more common in females with brown colored skin and those who live in sunny areas such as San Diego.

Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation may be the result of acne or trauma to the skin that causes an inflammatory response; therefore, resulting in a darkened area.

Benign Pigmented Lesions

Solar lentigos, also known as sunspots, result from chronic sun exposure. They usually occur in persons over 40 years, but may occur at 30 years or younger in sunny climates. They are generally found in people with lighter skin types; however, anyone with a history of unprotected sun exposure can develop them.

Common treatments based on the nature of the pigmentation may include various topicals such as skin lightening products - either prescription strength and/or medical grade skin care products, lasersIPL Photofacials, microdermabrasions, and chemical peels. The Complexions Rx Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse will discuss and review options based on the clinical findings.
